Gyms are not usually somewhere where you meet people. That’s probably because most people aren’t looking their best and just want to concentrate on getting through their workout, but a new startup app wants to change all that.
Gymder describes itself as a ?platform for fitness? where you can find workout partners. Its purpose is essentially to let you creep on that cute person in the gym and, according to Gizmodo, the app even described itself in a press email as “Tinder for athletes.”
The app’s launch came with a trailer, which is probably one of the strangest things we’ve seen in a while ($100 million mansion movie trailers excluded). Honestly, there?s so much to unpack we don?t know where to start. From the gaggle of adoring gym-goers clapping while a man does a push up to the lonely man taking a selfie and all the gratuitous high-fives ? it?s definitely a strange 39 seconds.
Besides the app just being an overall very bad idea, it also infringes on your digital privacy. For it to work, you have to grant it access to all of your photos, as well as give it permission to track your location at all times ? even when you’re not using the app.
